Student Focus: Tim Allison

Tim Allison

In the latest of our student focus pieces, we caught up with Tim Allison, who joins the Tech Educators community all the way from Dubai, flying in for his first week with us. To see how he has found the start of the daytime course.

So Tim, you’ve joined the TechEd full stack coding bootcamp course. What’s your background with technology and how did you find yourself on this course?

Well, I’ve been using technology from a young age, I started in the events industry when I was 18 years old, and at the time everything I used was analog, however, it advanced as technology developed, and so I’ve always been surround and up to date with the latest technology.

I discovered Crypto just over a year ago and was instantly hooked. I loved everything about it and wanted to understand more and more. I have been involved with a few projects that always required a Dev to help with contacts and websites, but, in the Crypto world it is hard to trust people. So, I decided that the best person to trust is myself and decided to learn everything possible about Software Development and Web3.

You flew in from Dubai to do your first week in person, that’s quite some commute. What was the logic behind this?

Like I mentioned above I have been in the same industry since I was 18 years old, I want a change in job and to be working on something I’m truly passionate about. I am nervous about making such a drastic change; however, I feel this is the right path for me. I felt coming to Norwich would be the best option for me to really secure a basic understanding of the course, it would allow me to meet my peers and trainers face-to-face and not just be a face on Zoom, it also provided me with opportunities to see what I really wanted to get out of completing the course.

Having completed the first week face-to-face, I’m so happy with my choice. Everyone involved in the course has been so welcoming and I feel I’ve learnt so much already!

How have you found the course so far? What’s stood out?

Fantastic! Tim Smith is a really great teacher. He’s passionate about what he’s teaching, this is evident from the energy he gives out during the sessions. The first week really provided a stepping stone into what we will be completing throughout the course, we focused on several different areas within HTML and CSS. Towards the end of the week I had a deeper understanding about Javascript, I’m excited to continue to delve deeper into these areas.

You looked at other providers, what made you choose Tech Educators?

I contacted other providers and even attended online interviews, however, I found it difficult to find a good fit for me. There are so many courses and programmes available however, I feel these are just 400 hours of content to watch, there’s no personal interaction or guidance provided. There’s not enough support provided and that’s not what I was interested in.

I did some more research and came across Tech Educators, the main thing that caught my eye was the Full Stack Dev offered. The 101 - Introduction to Coding Bootcamp offered, enabled me to see what the course would entail and I signed up straight away.

What are you most excited about with what’s to come on the course?

I am so interested in this industry already, that I can’t wait to understand everything it has to offer, but what I’m most excited about is delving further into the Web3 side of development. The blockchain coding bootcamp is a real focus for me.

I’m really looking forward to learning more about Javascript, particularly creating mini-games and exciting and interactive websites. I’m excited to learn more about creating professional websites and working with React.

I’m really looking forward to starting my journey in this industry. I really do think it’s going to be highly sort after and right now we are just at the foot of the mountain ready to climb, I want to be at the top before it explodes.

We will keep in touch with Tim as he progresses through his course and crypto adventures. If you are interested in finding out more about the journey from 0 to web3, take a look at our introduction to coding one day bootcamp.
